Tendulkar equals Jayasuriya''s ODI record

Johannesburg, Jan 15 (PTI) India''s champion batsmanSachin Tendulkar today achieved another milestone when heequalled Sanath Jayasuriya''s record of being the most cappedplayer in one-day international cricket.

The second one-dayer against South Africa at theWanderers here, was Tendulkar''s 444th match, the same as SriLankan legend Jayasuriya''s.

In a career during which he rewrote almost every majorbatting record, the 37-year-old recently became the firstbatsman in the history of Test cricket to score 50 centuriesin the longer format of the game.

He followed his landmark ton in the first Test againstSouth Africa in Centurion with another in the third game inCape Town to take his tally to 51.

Tendulkar also holds records for the most Testappearances (177), and the most Test runs.

In one-day internationals, Tendulkar has more than 17,000runs -- over 4,000 more than second-placed Jayasuriya -- andhas hit 17 more ODI centuries (46) than his nearest rival,Ricky Ponting of Australia.

Tendulkar is also the only player to score a doublehundred in ODIs.
