The inaugural TG20 Player Auction ushered in a new chapter for Telangana cricket on Saturday (June 7) as franchises splashed big money to secure some of the state's finest talents ahead of the league's maiden season.
With more than 1,300 HCA-registered cricketers available for selection, the eight franchises spent a combined ₹4.74 crore to build their squads for the first edition of the Telangana-based franchise T20 competition, which begins on June 21 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal.

India star and the newly appointed vice-captain of the T20I side Tilak Varma emerged as the most expensive player of the auction after Medak Falcons secured his services for a whopping ₹33 lakh. India pacer Mohammed Siraj and experienced all-rounder CV Milind were among the other headline acquisitions as franchises looked to secure proven performers and rising stars for the inaugural season.

Anvita Khammam Aces invested ₹17 lakh in the experienced domestic performer, reflecting his reputation as one of Telangana's most dependable all-round cricketers.

India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was acquired by Warangal Warriors for ₹14 lakh, bringing international experience and star appeal to the franchise.
The Hyderabad-born pacer is expected to play a key leadership role while also serving as one of the tournament's biggest crowd-pullers.

These players are expected to form the core of their respective franchises heading into the inaugural season.
A Category Stars Attract Big Money
Emerging talents were not left behind during the auction. Arfaz Ahmed and Abhirath Reddy emerged as the joint-highest buys in the A category, fetching ₹11 lakh each.
Chandan Sahani, Pranav Varma and Hima Teja were among the other prominent signings as franchises looked to invest in the next generation of Telangana cricketers.

TG20 Set For Historic First Season
A total of 160 players were bought during the auction, including nine Icon players, six A+ players, 30 A-category players, eight B-category players and 107 players across the C and C2 categories.
In line with TG20's focus on grassroots cricket development, every franchise was mandated to include at least four district cricketers in its squad, while a minimum of two district players must feature in the Playing XI during the tournament.
The inaugural edition of TG20 will commence on June 21, 2026, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal. Eight franchises will compete across 32 matches over 21 days in what promises to be a landmark event for Telangana cricket.
