'Best man' selected for tough task: Modi govt to send FS Jaishankar to break ice with Pakistan

New Delhi, Feb 13: In an attempt to give a new spur to dormant Indo-Pak relationship, Modi Government may send Foreign secretary S Jaishankar to Pakistan in coming days. This has come to fore hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up his Pakistani counterpart and wished him good luck for the World Cup cricket.

Though at present, the whole plan is in initial stage, but if it is true then that will be first official high level visit from Indian side after Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif visited India last year during Modi's oath taking ceremony.

Thaw in Indo-Pak relation in the offing?

Reportedly, Modi has told Sharif that India wants to resume Foreign secretary level talks again. Last year in the month of August, India had canceled the talk after Pakistan went ahead with their bromance with Kashmiri separatists despite India's opposition.

According to Times Of India report, newly appointed Foreign Secretary and his Pakistani counterpart recently discussed the modalities of resuming talks between two countries which has been hobbled by many irritants.

Both met in New Delhi and discussed about relation between two countries and how to make it better. Both the countries discussed issues at length. India reiterated its position that Pakistan must punish perpetrators of 26/ 11 Mumbai attack.

Times of India quotes, "The talks were held in a very cordial manner. It was a courtesy call by the high commissioner on the new foreign secretary but some exploratory discussions did take place," said a source.
