Brydon Carse says England are desperate to "put smiles on faces" of their travelling supporters, ahead of their second Ashes Test against Australia.

The tourists trail 1-0 in the series after they were comfortably beaten in the opening Test in Perth after just two days of play.

England will look to respond when the second Test gets under way in Brisbane on Thursday, though they have not won at the Gabba since 1986.

Meanwhile, it is 14 years since they last recorded a Test victory in Australia, but that has not prevented thousands of supporters from making the long journey to support their team.

And Carse acknowledged the sense of responsibility he and his team-mates feel towards the fans.

"The English support at Perth was fantastic," he said.

"Someone was mentioning to me the other day the number of fans that are travelling throughout the Ashes. We're very fortunate with the following and the support we get.

"Of course, every single player in that dressing room wants to win, as do the fans, as does everyone who follows English cricket. We'll be looking to put smiles on our faces and theirs."

Despite the disappointment of their defeat in the opening Test, England did dismiss Australia for 132 in the first innings, with the Baggy Greens unable to handle the pace of the touring attack.

Although Mark Wood will be absent through injury, Carse feels that could be a crucial factor once again as the tourists look to level the series.

"I'd like to think so," he added. "We take a lot of confidence individually and as a group, and we're really excited for what this week has to offer.

"It's exciting. It's special to be part of a pace attack like that.

"Going forward into this week and for the remainder of the series, we've certainly got players and bowlers that are exciting and can, hopefully, change games."
