This Indian team is not worried about individual performances: Virat Kohli

Bengaluru, Nov 18: India Test captain Virat Kohli today made it clear that the current set of players were not bothered about personal performances and it was only about the team which mattered to them.

After the 2nd India-South Africa Test ended in a draw today (November 18) at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli stressed on the aspect of team rather than individual milestones.

India won the opening Test of the 4-match series in Mohali. With a 1-0 lead, they held the upperhand after first day's play in Bengaluru but rain and wet outfield hampered their chances. Four days, in a row, were lost due to inclement weather.

When Kohli was asked whether it was a worry that some of the players did not get a chance due to rain, he said he was not bothered about individual performances.

"Not at all. Everyone is in good space. It doesn't matter. You don't need to put a certain score in front of the player to make an impact on the team. Take for example, (Ravindra) Jadeja's knock of 38 in Mohali, no one is talking about that. I think it was as important as Pujara and Vijay's in the course of the Test match.

"(Wriddhiman) Saha's 25-odd runs in second innings were also as important as Vijay and Pujara's. This team is not worried about personal performances, putting numbers in front of names. We just want to go out there and win a Test match," Kohli said after the 2nd Test on Wednesday (November 18).

"If we feel that a guy has made an impact with 30 as well we will surely let him know. Not bothered at all. We need to find right balance between batting and bowling. You certainly need to win a Test match and we got it right in Mohali.

"This game, day 1 was balance of both. Everyone plays in that zone that they want to perform for the team firstly and not worry about themselves getting to a hundred or a fifty. That is the most pleasing thing about the confidence and the mindset we have in this team," he added.
