'Thoda fashion mein lag gaya': Former star gives blunt verdict on Ishan Kishan snub from Indian cricket team

Ishan Kishan has went down the pecking order in the Indian cricket team for focussing too much on 'fashion', former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has reckoned. The wicketkeeper-batter has been out of the Indian cricket team ever since he opted for a break in December last year.

Ishan Kishan took the break citing mental fatigue due to travelling continuously with the team without any certainty of a place in the playing eleven. He was spotted partying in Dubai after pulling out of the South Africa Test series, and the same did not reportedly go well with the BCCI.

Later, Kishan opted to train with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya instead of playing domestic Ranji Trophy matches as suggested by the BCCI. The board punished him by dropping him from the central contract list.

Ishan Kishan, who was part of India's World Cup 2023 squad, was not considered for the T20 World Cup 2024. In fact, he wasn't even included in the team of youngsters which toured Zimbabwe for five T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024.

"Ishan Kishan has fallen down the pecking order. Woh bhi thoda sa fashion mein lag gaya tha (He too got into fashion a bit)," Basit Ali said on his YouTube Channel.

The emergence of Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and other youngsters have pushed Ishan Kishan completely out of contention for a spot in the team. The southpaw would need to get back to domestic cricket and perform exceptionally to come back in the reckoning.

The Patna-born cricketer was recently seen at the wedding ceremony of Akash Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Mumbai. He was seen dancing and enjoying alongside Bollywood stars and fellow cricketers including Hardik Pandya.
