IND vs BAN: Bangladesh's tour of India is just a week away from getting underway. The first Test will kick off on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. The second and final Test will be held on September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Team India and Bangladesh have locked horns with each other on 13 occasions in the history of Test cricket. Bangladesh are yet to open their account against India in the longest format whereas India have won 11 games and the other two matches ended in a draw.

Taking a trip down the memory lane, Bangladesh had a chance to pull off a historic Test win against India at home but they let the chance slip away from their hands. In fact, they came agonizingly close to securing a victory but Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer turned the tide when it mattered the most and pulled off the ropes from the jaws of defeat.

Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 227 in the first innings and India responded with 314. The hosts scored 231 runs in the second innings and set up a target of 145. However, India struggled to provide the spark at the top of the order, with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara being dismissed for cheap scores, courtesy of Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan.

The game was gradually tilting towards Bangladesh's way when India were stuttering at 74/7 in Mirpur. The visitors who already won the first Test were figuring out ways to show persistence as they still required 71 runs to ace the chase.

With just three wickets in hand, the game had to be won the hard way. In this situation, Ashwin and Iyer gave all sorts of problems to the Bangladeshi bowlers by navigating the challenges by stitching a solid 71-run unbeaten partnership that helped India beat Bangladesh by three wickets and complete the Test series 2-0 clean sweep in 2022.

Ashwin scored an unbeaten 42 with the help of 4 fours and a maximum whereas Iyer scored an unbeaten 29. The intense match was so close and could have gone either way but the visitors came up trumps against the hosts. Bangladesh's spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraj and Shakib Al Hasan gave absolutely everything to keep the Indians in check but that wasn't meant to be the case in the end.

The veteran cricketer was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. The Tamil Nadu-born accounted for 4 dismissals in the first innings before following it up with two wickets in the second innings. Meanwhile, Bangladesh are no longer the team they once were.

Over the years, they have grown significantly and now look like a much more promising side that has the potential to beat any team. They seem more prepared for high-stakes challenges. It remains to be seen how the Tigers approach their game against India this time, especially following their historic 2-0 series whitewash against Pakistan on foreign soil.
