Three Indian batters who could break Rohit Sharma's record of five centuries in T20Is

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is after India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados. With his head held high, the senior pro signed off his stellar T20I career as the leading run-getter in the shortest format with 4231 runs.

Popularly known as 'Hitman' for his six-hitting abilities, Rohit Sharma was a spectacular performer for Team India in the shortest format. Ever since his T20I debut in 2007, he has gone on to make 159 appearances for the national team.

Rohit Sharma once etched his name into the record books for hitting the most centuries in T20Is (five), before it was equalled by Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.

Now that Rohit Sharma has retired from T20Is, the senior pro has passed the torch on to the youngsters. Cut to the chase, let's take a look at the three Indian batters who could break Rohit Sharma's record of five tons in T20Is.

1. Abhishek Sharma: Abhishek Sharma took the cricket fraternity by storm as he scored his maiden T20I century in his second game. The aggressive left-hander achieved the feat against Zimbabwe in the second T20I where he took just 46 balls to relish the feat, which is the third-joint fastest for India in men's T20Is.

The 23-year-old who brings additional value to the team with his fearless stroke play has all the tools to break Rohit Sharma's century tally in T20Is.

2. Shubman Gill: It is no secret that Shubman Gill hasn't had the best of starts to his T20I career where he went through ups and downs so far. Gill, who is on the learning curve, has the penchant for playing long innings.

With sheer talent and determination, he is well-positioned to not just challenge Rohit's record but break in the future. Having played 14 T20Is so far, he scored 335 runs including a century and a fifty.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad: Ruturaj Gaikwad is another name from India who has got the potential to break Rohit Sharma's century tally in T20Is. He has got the knack for hitting sixes and fours and his aggressive stroke play makes him a potent weapon in the powerplay overs and beyond.

Notably, he can play the aggressor and anchor role equally well based on the match situation, a trait that sets him apart from most other youngsters of this era. He scored 500 runs in 19 T20Is including 1 century and 3 fifties.
