Three Unusual Records Created by Pakistan Cricket Team in Recent Months

By Rishab VM

The Pakistan cricket team, known for its rich history and passionate fanbase, has been a formidable force in international cricket for decades.

However, the past few months have seen the team create some unusual and unexpected records, marking a series of surprising results against lesser-ranked teams.

Pakistan register several unusual record in the last three months

These matches have not only stunned the cricketing world but have also sparked discussions about the consistency and performance of the once-dominant side. Here's a look at some of the most surprising records created by the Pakistan cricket team in recent months.

1. First-Ever T20I Loss to Ireland

On May 10, 2024, Pakistan faced Ireland in the first T20I of their tour, marking the first T20 encounter between the two teams in 15 years. Ireland, playing at home in Dublin, stunned Pakistan by chasing down a competitive total of 183 with one ball to spare.

The Irish victory was anchored by a brilliant 77 from Andy Balbirnie, which proved to be the cornerstone of their successful chase. This victory was significant for Ireland, as it marked their first-ever win against Pakistan in T20 Internationals.

The only previous encounter between the two sides in this format had been at the ICC World T20 in 2009, where Pakistan emerged victorious. Ireland's win by five wickets (with one ball remaining) was a historic moment and a rare defeat for Pakistan against an associate nation in T20 cricket.

2. First T20I Loss to an Associate Nation (USA)

A few weeks later, on June 6, 2024, Pakistan faced yet another shocking defeat, this time in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The match, held at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, saw Pakistan take on the United States, an associate nation with limited experience on the world stage.

Despite the gulf in cricketing pedigree, the USA managed to hold their nerve and push the game into a Super Over after both teams finished on 159 runs in their respective 20 overs.

In the Super Over, the USA set a target of 19 runs, which Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, failed to chase down, losing the game by five runs.

This loss was a significant setback for Pakistan, as it marked the first time they had lost to an associate nation in a T20 World Cup, highlighting concerns over their ability to close out games in high-pressure situations.

3. First-Ever Test Loss to Bangladesh

The unusual run of results continued for Pakistan in the longer format of the game as well. In the first Test match of the ongoing series played in Rawalpindi, Pakistan suffered a historic defeat against Bangladesh.

This result marked the first time Bangladesh had ever beaten Pakistan in a Test match. The match began with Pakistan declaring their first innings at a strong 448-6, a move that seemed to exude confidence, especially after a rain-affected start.

However, Bangladesh responded with a mammoth total of 565, led by a spectacular 191 from Mushfiqur Rahim. Pakistan's second innings was nothing short of a disaster, as they crumbled to just 146 all out.

Needing only 30 runs to win, Bangladesh chased down the target comfortably, sealing a historic victory and adding another unusual record to Pakistan's recent run of disappointing results.
