Suresh Raina, a 2011 Cricket World Cup-winner and former Indian cricketer, rolled back the years with a blistering half-century for New York Lions CC in the Sixty Strikes tournament, organized by the National Cricket League in the United States. Raina's explosive 53 off 28 balls was studded with three sixes and six fours.
Raina led his team to a solid 19-run victory over Los Angeles Waves CC in a 10-over match held in Dallas. Put into bat after Los Angeles Waves won the toss, New York Lions found themselves in early trouble when opener Asad Shafiq was dismissed for just 3.

However, Raina, alongside former Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga, steadied the innings with a crucial 89-run partnership. Tharanga chipped in with a valuable 40 off 23 balls, helping New York post a formidable total of 126/4 in their 10 overs.
The highlight of Raina's innings came in the over bowled by Los Angeles Waves' captain and world-class all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Raina took Shakib apart, smashing two sixes and a four, gathering 18 runs in a single over.
Shakib, who had recently featured in a Test series against India, struggled against Raina's aggressive intent and conceded 18 runs in his only over. The former Indian star's ability to dominate spinners was on full display, reminiscent of his glory days with the national team and the IPL's Chennai Super Kings.
In response, Los Angeles Waves faltered from the start, losing opener Stevie Eskinazi to a golden duck on the first ball. Although contributions from Adam Rossington (31 off 15), Tim David (19 off 10), and Joe Burns (17 off 9) kept their hopes alive, it wasn't enough to chase down New York's imposing total.
Shakib himself could not revive the innings, managing just 13 off 16 balls before falling to South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. New York's bowlers, led by young USA pacer Shourya Gaur (3 wickets) and Shamsi (2 wickets), restricted Los Angeles Waves to 107/6.
With this win, New York Lions became the second team to triumph in the Sixty Strikes tournament, following Texas Gladiators' victory in the opening match. Raina's knock proved that despite his retirement in 2020, he still possesses the power and flair that made him one of India's most dangerous batsmen.
