Tigers win over CHD-Lions in the ICL 20-20 Championship

Chandigarh, Dec 2(UNI) It was a disappointing Sunday evening for the audience at Panchkula Stadium here wherein Kolkata Tigers marked a tremendous victory over host team Chandigarh Lions.

Kolkata Tigers thrilling 43 runs win marked a new chapter and restricted the graph of the last time winning team in their hometown.

In a match full of excitement and suspense, Kolkata Tiger took over Chandigarh Lions at the end when Darren Maddy took four wickets for six runs dashing Chandigarh's hopes for the victory. Chandigarh Lions were wrapped up at 81 runs in 17.3 overs.

Kolkata Tigers won the toss and chose to bat. Partnership of two experienced players Darren Maddy and Lance Klusner was a highlight but it did not live up to the expectations. Opener Star Darren Maddy(19) and Lance Klusner (12) started off the inning but Maddy was soon beautifully caught by R S Sodhi.

Lance Klusner was bowled in the very first over. Maddy(19) and Craig Mc Millan(20) were the top scorers at Kolkata's side. The inning witnessed 12 fours and one Six, enabling Kolkata Tigers to make 124 for 10 wickets to set the target of 125 runs for the Chandigarh Lions.

Darren Maddy's (4-6) bowling helped kolkata to achieve the tremendous victory. Maddy was declared Man of the Match.

Chandigarh Lions chase was started by Hamish Marshall(7) and Imraan Farhat(23). Chandigarh's performance left the local audience high and dry. Apart from Imran, only T P Singh(15) could manage to gather some runs for the host team. Three run outs in the middle of the innings by Kolkatta tigers left the Chandigarh Lions with rare hopes of winning the match.

Finally, in a match that saw fortunes fluctuate till the dying moments, the young Kolkata Tigers replied back to Chandigarh Lions with some smashing moments. It was an incredible display by the Kolkata Tigers who turned the match around into a victory.

Today it was a disappointing day for the audiences who had turned out in full force at the stadium to support the Chandigarh Lions. As per the reports from few police officers and local onlookers it was difficult to get tickets for the matches at Panchkula Stadium.

The police force had the tough time to control the crowd's excitement and black marketers. On conditions of anonymity one police officer stated, ''The response to the ICL 20-20 Tournament was maddening and we were having a tough time controlling the enthusiasm of the fans and to control the black marketers.''
