Tirunelveli, July 31: Half centuries from S Siddharth and NS Chaturved set up VB Thiruvallur Veerans' second win of the tournament in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2017.
Patriots complete hat-trick of wins
After unsuccessfully trying to breakthrough, Trichy's luck finally turned when the openers ran after the ball ricocheted into the field from a direct hit. Trying to steal a second run, Siddharth fell short.
Trichy made a few inroads picking up a few wickets but Chaturved still went about his business rotating the strike and making sure he got the boundaries when the chance presented itself. He finally fell after miscuing a shot to long on after having scored 89 valuable runs.
Thiruvallur also benefitted from a timely cameo from Malolan Rangarajan who scored a quick fire 17 of 5 balls. J Kousik picked up two wickets for his side but Thiruvallur set a daunting 183 as the target. It was always an uphill task for Trichy as the required run-rate was high from the start.
Indrajith decided to promote himself up the order and to open the batting and he and Bharath Shankar got the side of to an ideal start as they scored 62 runs for the opening wicket. Once Indrajith got out though, they struggled to build partnerships.
Thiruvallur had a mixed day in the field dropping some catches but they took the catches when it counted.
Malolan Rangarajan, R Silambarasan and Rahil Shah shared 7 wickets between them. This was Trichy's second loss in a row while Thiruvallur made it two wins out of three.
