Tirunelveli, July 12: Lyca Kovai Kings lifted their second Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) title after a 104-run victory over Nellai Royal Kings in the summit clash of TNPL 2023 at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelvelli, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday (July 12).

After fifties from Suresh Kumar, U Mukilesh and Atheeq Ur Rahman powered Lyca Kovai Kings to 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs, Jhatavedh Subramanyan and Shahrukh Khan combined to bundle out Nellai Royal Kings for 101.

Jhathavedh was the star with the ball for the champions NKK as the leg spinner ended with figures of 4 for 21, while skipper Shahrukh claimed three wickets, including the dangerous looking opposition skipper Arun Karthik for 27.

Earlier, opting to bat, Suresh (57 off 33 balls) and Mukilesh (51 off 40 balls) steadied the ship for LKK after NRK's Sandeep Warrier's early double strike. Atheeq then handed LKK a good finish by smashing a 21-ball 50. Warrier and Sonu Yadav took two wickets each for NRK.

TNPL, a T20 tournament organized by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), has been held every year since 2016 except for the year 2020 when the league was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

In the 7 editions held so far, Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful side having won the title four times in 2021, 2019, 2017 and 2022, when they shared the title with LKK, who have won the title twice now. Siechem Madurai Panthers and now defunct Tuti Patriots are the other two winners.
