TNPL 2024: 'India's Sunil Narine' - Fans React After Ashwin's 20-ball 45 For Dindigul Dragons

By MyKhel Staff

Senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin showcases his ability with the bat in T20 as the spinner smashes 20-ball 45 for Dindigul Dragons in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 match during the weekend.

The 37-year-old, who is no mug with the bat, took on the Chepauk Super Gillies bowlers, smashing 4 sixes and 3 fours during his knock in the rain-affected truncated game at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore on Sunday (July 14) night.

With his side struggling at 1 for 3 after 1.4 overs in a match that was reduced to 7 overs a side, Ashwin, who opened the batting, evaded early threat from Abhsihek Tanwar, the destructor in chief for the Super Gillies, to fight back and post a challenging score.

Ashwin first shared a 31-run stand with Vimal Khumar (12 off 7 balls) and then carried his bat through to make the major contribution in the scorecard as the rest of the batting unit could only manage a total of 16 runs, resulting in the Dragons finishing at 65/7 in 7 overs.

Following his quickfire knock filled with sixes and fours, fans compared Ashwin to another off-spinner, who dominated as a batter in the opening slot - Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders.

One fan said how Ashwin delivers when the team needs him the most, while another simply said "He is India's answer to Sunil Narine". Here is a look his quickfire innings:

Ashwin's batting ability shouldn't come as a surprise as he began his career as an opening batter before transitioning into a spinner. He also has several Test centuries to his name and has also shown his boundary-hitting ability in IPL with Rajasthan Royals.

His knock on Sunday (July 14), however, went in vain as Chepauk Super Gilles chased down the target of 65 with 9 wickets in hand and 13 balls to spare in the run chase as N Jagadeesan and Baba Aparajith Smashed unbeaten 30 odd runs to see their side home.
