TNPL 2024: Ravichandran Ashwin creates history, takes Dindigul Dragons to Final

By MyKhel Staff

A batting brilliance from Ravichandran Ashwin has taken Dindigul Dragons to the final of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024.

Dindigul Dragons beat Tiruppur Tamizhans by 9 wickets in the Qualifier 2 and now will take on Lyca Kovai Kings in the final of the tournament on August 4.

Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his prowess in the TNPL 4 qualifier, leading from the front. The captain opened the batting and smashed an unbeaten 69 runs off just 30 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and three sixes. His half-century came in just 25 balls within the first nine overs.

Ashwin's explosive innings ensured the Dragons chased down the Tamizhans' modest total of 108 with ease. They achieved this with nine wickets in hand and more than nine overs remaining. This victory secured their spot in the finals of the TNPL 2024 season, where they will compete against Lyca Kovai Kings in Chennai on August 4.

Ravichandran Ashwin's Consecutive Fifties

In the second qualifier held at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, Ashwin partnered with Vimal Khumar to put up an impressive opening stand. The duo added 81 runs in just 8.2 overs before Khumar was dismissed for a run-a-ball 28 by P Bhuvaneswaran. Ashwin continued his onslaught, reaching his half-century in just 25 balls.

Ashwin's performance was not limited to batting alone. Earlier in the match, he took the wicket of IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans opener Tushar Raheja, finishing with figures of 1-27 from his four overs. His all-round performance was crucial in restricting the Tamizhans to a mere 108 runs in 19.4 overs.

Ashwin had already shown his form earlier in the playoffs stage by scoring another half-century against Chepauk Super Gillies in the Eliminator. In that match, he scored 57 runs off 35 balls, setting up a strong foundation for his team.

Interestingly, Ashwin has scored 200 runs in the TNPL this season with an average of 33.33. The veteran India all-rounder also has 9 wickets to his name. This is a historical season for the India player as he never scored 200 runs in a TNPL season before.
