During a Tamil Nadu Premier League match, Ravichandran Ashwin experienced a rare on-field outburst. The veteran off-spinner, leading Dindigul Dragons, was dismissed leg-before by R Sai Kishore of IDream Tiruppur Tamizhians.
Ashwin had started strong, scoring 18 runs with boundaries and a six in his first 10 balls. However, the dismissal came on the 11th ball he faced.

As Ashwin attempted a paddle sweep, the ball struck his pads. Umpire Venkatesan Krithika raised her finger to the bowler's appeal while Ashwin was attempting a quick single. Replays indicated that the ball had pitched outside leg-stump. Unfortunately, Ashwin and his partner Shivam Singh had already used their referrals on leg-side wide deliveries due to a new TNPL rule.
With no referrals left, Ashwin had no choice but to return to the dugout. India's second-highest wicket-taker was visibly upset and questioned Krithika about her decision. Initially, Krithika ignored him as they crossed paths but later turned to justify her call. Ashwin's frustration was evident as he left the field.
While exiting, Ashwin expressed his anger by hitting his bat against his leg guards. Nearing the boundary ropes, he removed his gloves and threw them in frustration. His team eventually lost the match by nine wickets. Despite his anger being understandable due to the decision, his behaviour was not fitting for someone of his stature.
The TNPL has not yet announced any sanctions against Ashwin. It remains to be seen what match referee Arjan Kripal Singh's report will contain regarding the incident. The incident highlights the pressure players face during crucial moments in matches.
Ashwin's reaction underscores the importance of fair play and maintaining composure on the field. Such incidents can overshadow a player's achievements and impact their reputation negatively. The cricketing community will be keenly observing any developments following this incident.
