South Africa duo De Zorzi and Ferreira ruled out of T20 World Cup

By Joel Sritharan

South Africa batters Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira have both been ruled out of the T20 World Cup next month due to injuries.

The Proteas face Canada in their World Cup opener on February 9, while they will also face Afghanistan, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates in the group stage.

De Zorzi suffered a hamstring tear in South Africa's ODI series against India in December, but slow progression in his rehabilitation will see him miss the tournament, which is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Ferreira, meanwhile, fractured his left clavicle during a domestic T20 match on January 17, as both players will also miss their five-match T20I series against West Indies in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton have replaced De Zorzi and Ferreira.

Another injury concern for the Proteas is David Miller, with the big-hitting batter suffering an adductor problem on Monday.

Miller, who is South Africa’s second-highest run scorer in the shortest format, has already been ruled out of their preparation games against West Indies, but he is still in contention to recover for the World Cup.
