Travis Head Declared Fit: Boosts Australia Playing XI for Boxing Day Test Against India

By MyKhel Staff

Australian captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that star batter Travis Head is fit to feature in the Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Head's inclusion is a significant boost for the Australian lineup, which is looking to take the lead in the tied five-match series.

Head, who leads the series with 409 runs at a staggering average of 81.80, had raised concerns after suffering a minor quad strain during the Brisbane Test. However, rigorous fitness tests on Christmas Day confirmed his readiness. "Trav is good to go," Cummins told reporters.

"He just ticked off some final things today and yesterday. No stress, no worries about injury for Trav," he added. Despite his fitness, Cummins hinted at possible adjustments in Head's fielding role if discomfort arises. "Maybe around fielding, if he's a bit uncomfortable, we will manage that, but he's fully fit to bat," he added.

Cummins praised Head's form, describing him as a pivotal figure in Australia's batting lineup. "It feels like the last 12 months he's been in this unbelievable vein of form, and he just keeps going. He's hitting the ball really cleanly and shifting pressure back onto the opposition from the first ball."

Team Changes for the MCG Clash

In addition to Head's confirmation, Australia has made two key changes to their lineup. Scott Boland will replace the injured Josh Hazlewood, while 19-year-old Sam Konstas will make his Test debut, becoming the youngest Australian Test cricketer since Cummins himself debuted in 2011.

Cummins expressed excitement about Konstas' debut, stating, "There's a level of naivety that comes with debutants. The message to Sam is simple: play like you're in the backyard and have fun."

Australia's XI for the Test includes Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, and Mitchell Starc, with Alex Carey as the wicketkeeper.

With the series tied at 1-1, the Boxing Day Test is set to be a crucial encounter. Head's return bolsters Australia's batting, and his recent dominance against India will be pivotal in navigating Jasprit Bumrah's lethal pace attack.
