Australia's victory over India in the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19 was tainted by the distasteful behaviour of a section of Indian fans. The triumph of Men in Yellow, spearheaded by Travis Head's sensational 137-run performance, was met with unsavory backlash directed not at the players, but their families.
Reports indicate that Travis Head's wife (Jessica Davies) and daughter, as well as Glenn Maxwell's wife (Vini Raman), bore the brunt of the fans' fury, receiving threats of violence and abuse.

Team India, which had remained undefeated in ten matches, unfortunately, fell short in the most crucial game of their campaign, culminating as runners-up. The mood across the nation was one of disappointment as fans grappled with the reality of their favourite team's loss.
While many chose to stay clear of social media, a few crossed the line, resorting to extreme vitriol and expressing their frustration in the form of threats and abuse towards the Australian cricketers' families.
Under the guise of social media anonymity, some fans sunk to new lows by targeting even Glenn Maxwell's one-year-old daughter with threats. However, Maxwell's wife, Vini Raman of Indian origin, took to Instagram to rebuke these aggressive fans.
In response to the malicious messages, Raman took a firm stance, posting, "...aaaaand cue all the hateful vile DMs. Stay classy. Can't believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband plus the father of your child plays in no-brainer. Take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues."
She made this assertive statement after attending the match at Narendra Modi Stadium with their newborn son, also sharing heartwarming snapshots and a video of Maxwell cradling their infant.
Responses on various platforms, including micro-blogging site X, were forthcoming, with one user expressing shock at the threats directed to Travis Head's family. The user highlighted the fact that the cricketer's daughter is merely a year old, emphasizing the gravity of such threats.
This unsettling incident occurred in the wake of Australia's sixth World Cup title victory, following wins in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. Despite having been defeated by India in the league stage, the Australian squad rallied to outdo the Men in Blue in the final, sealing their victory with 7 overs to spare and a margin of 6 wickets.
While the majority of Indian fans handled the disappointment of the defeat with grace, the actions of a few have cast a shadow over the sportsmanship that should prevail in such international competitions. It's essential to remember that, in the end, cricket is just a game, and the spirit of the sport should always be kept alive, irrespective of the outcome.
