Trials to induct fresh blood in Cricket Academy
Chandigarh, May 5 (UNI) Twenty four under-14 boys will be recruited for a Cricket Academy to be established at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium on the pattern of the Chandigarh Football Hockey Academy.
Sports Director Inderjit Singh Sandhu said that a panel of coaches would visit cricket coaching centres in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and other places to spot the talent for the final selection and later induct them in the proposed academy.
The selection panel will comprise District Sports Officer JS Negi, cricket coach Harish Sharma, athletic coaches Iqbal Singh and Sarabjit Singh. They will be assisted by the concerned coaches of the coaching centres and districts sports officers of the states.
Boys born between January 1 to December 31, 1997 will be eligible for selection and induction in the Chandigarh Cricket Academy. The selected boys will be given free board and lodging, They will also be given free uniform, clothing, sports material, medical facilities, education and other allied equipment.
The Department will also hold selection trials for those who wish to join the academy from any part of the country on June 5 and 5 at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
The final trials will be conducted on June 8 and 9 at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.
Joint Director Sports Dr JPS Sidhu said that the trials would be to test the skill of the players as well as their physical strength and would be based on a set of criteria.
During the primary selection trials at state and district levels, tests would be conducted on 30 metres flying start, standng broad jump, 6x10 metres shuttle run, medicine ball put, 800 metres race and stump target.
Mr Sandhu said that the selection panel would visit Meerut (May 13 and 14), Lucknow (May 16 and 17), Faridabad (May 19 and 20), Una (May 23 and 24), Patiala (May 26), Amritsar (May 29 and 30), Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali (June 1, 2 and 4, respectively).
