Australia Women on Sunday created history by beating hosts South Africa by 19 runs to clinch their record-extending sixth Women's T20 World Cup title. This is Australia's second hat-trick of Women's T20 World Cup titles. Earlier, they had won the coveted trophy in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

At the same time, South Africa lost their golden opportunity to lift the trophy in front of the home crowd. Notably, it was for the first time that South Africa was contesting the final of the ICC World Cup. Neither men's nor women's team had earlier featured in a T20 World Cup or a 50-over World Cup earlier.

After opting to bat first at the Newlands in Cape Town, Australia posted 156 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Beth Mooney top-scored for the side and became the only player in Women's T20 World Cup history to score fifties in two consecutive finals. The opener scored 74 unbeaten runs including nine fours and a six off 53 balls. Ashleigh Gardner was the second-highest run-scorer for the team. She scored 29 runs off 21 balls. Pacers Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp picked two wickets each for South Africa.

In reply, the hosts crumbled under scoreboard pressure from the very beginning. No player apart from Laura Wolvaardt (61 off 45) can put up a fight against Meg Lanning's side who bowled tight lines and showcased exceptional fielding skills. Megan Schutt, Gardner, Darcie Brown and Jess Jonassen picked a wicket each while two of the South Africa batters including captain Sune Luus (2) got run out after getting involved in terrible mix-ups. Schutt (5.8), Gardner (5), Brown (6.2) and Jonassen (7) bowled miserly spells to restrict the hosts to 137/6 in the allotted 20 overs.

Australia Women have now emerged victorious in six of the eight Women's T20 World Cup editions. Here are a few of the Twitter reactions after Australia's thumping win:
