South Africa Women on Friday scripted history after beating England by six runs in the second semi-final of the Women's T20 World Cup at Newlands in Cape Town.
With the win, South Africa entered the final of a T20 World Cup for the first time ever. Notably, the South African men's cricket team also hasn't played in the final of a T20 World Cup till date.
After electing to bat first, South Africa posted a 165-run target for the 2009 champions. Openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits scored 53 and 68 runs respectively and their first wicket partnership accounted for 96 runs off 82 balls.
In reply, England were also off to a flying start as Danielle Wyatt (34) and Sophia Dunkley (28) accumulated 53 runs in just five overs. However Shabnim Ismail dismissed Dunkley and Alice Capsey in the sixth over to put brakes on the opposition. Later, Nat Sciver-Brunt got in the groove and scored 40 off 34 to give England alive in the competition but once she was dismissed in the 17th over, there was no recovery for the English team. The 18th over saw Ayabonga Khaka (4/29) pick three wickets. With 13 required off the last over, Ismail grabbed her third wicket in the form of England captain Heather Knight and sealed his team a home final clash against Australia on Sunday.
