#HelpNana4Farmers: Twitterati laud Nana Patekar’s effort to help drought-hit farmers

By Maitreyee Boruah

New Delhi, April 16: These are strange times. When the politicians and administrators have failed to help the drought-hit farmers of Maharashtra, Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has come to their rescue. According to the media reports, every day nine farmers are committing suicide in the drought-hit state.

The national-award winning actor, through his organisation--Naam Foundation--is collecting funds to help the effected farmers. Recently, Patekar told the media that the nation should not treat farmers as beggars.

"A massive migration is taking place to cities. And I want to tell everyone: if someone knocks at your car window, don't treat them like beggars. They are farmers," the actor told NDTV. "They are helpless. They need food, water and access to toilets. Let's take responsibility for one person each. It's not hard," he added.

Patekar said Maharashtra shouldn't have hosted the IPL matches.
