U19 Women's Asia Cup 2024: Indian women's under 19 team defeated Bangladesh by 41 runs in the final to win the inaugural edition of the Women's U-19 Asia Cup at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday (December 22).

After opener Gongadi Trisha scored a fifty to take the Indian eves to 117/7 in their allotted 20 overs, the tournament's leading wicket-taker Aayushi Shukla produced tremendous figures of 3 for 17 to bundle out Bangladesh for 76 in their run chase.

Aayushi delivered the best figures, but the other Indian bowlers also chipped in with wickets and tight spells to stifle the Bangladeshi batters in their response. Parunika Sisodia and Sonam Yadav picked two wickets each, while Joshitha VJ, who struck very early in the innings, claimed one wicket for India.

Joshitha removed Eva for a two-ball duck in the second over to give India the first breakthrough, but the other Bangladesh opener Fahomida Choya fought back with 18 off 24 balls before she was sent back to the pavilion by Sonam Yadav, who also dismissed Sumaiya Akhter soon.

Juairiya Ferdous helped Bangladesh a little more to the total before they collapsed, losing the last seven wickets for 21 runs in 40 balls and handed over the victory to India, who will take confidence from this triumph into the U19 Women's World Cup next year.

Earlier, put into bat, India G Kamilini and Sanilka Chalke with just 25 runs on the board in 5 overs, but G Trisha, one of the main architects of India's win in the inaugural U19 Women's World Cup last year, was once again the reason for their triumph in the continental event.

Trisha, who scored 52 off 47 balls, shared a good partnership of 41 with skipper Niki Prasad (12 off 21 balls) before departing in the 16th over. Mithila Vinod scored a crucial 12-ball 17 to take India to well over 100.

For Bangladesh, pacer Farjana Easmin topped the bowling charts with figures of 4 for 31 in her four overs, while Nishita Akter Nishi bagged two important wickets and Habiba Islam claimed the other Indian wicket.
