Uganda cricket team created history on Thursday by beating PNG by three wickets and registering their first-ever win in the T20 World Cup history. Uganda chased down a 78-run target with three wickets and 10 balls remaining.
In the Group C match played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, Uganda were all over Papua New Guinea after electing to bowl first. They bundled out PNG for 77 in 19.1 overs on the back of some very impressive bowling display.

Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta, Juma Miyagi and Frank Nsubuga picked two wickets each as only three PNG batters could score in double digits. Uganda captain Brian Masaba also bowled four overs for 17 runs and a wicket.
43-year-old left-arm spinner Nsubuga gave away just four runs in four overs to break South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje's record for the most economical 4-over spell in Men's T20 World Cup history. Nortje gave away just seven runs for four wickets against South Africa on Monday in New York.
In reply, Uganda also lost four wickets in the powerplay and were later five down for 26 in 6.3 overs. Just when it looked like PNG would script a sensational comeback win, a crucial 34-run partnership between Riazat Ali Shah and Juma (13) put Uganda in control of the run-chase.
Shah was dismissed for 33 off 56 with Uganda needing just three to win from 13 balls. Later, Kenneth Waiswa swept a delivery fine and ran a double on the second ball of the 19th over to finally script Uganda's historic first win in an ICC event.
With the win Uganda jumped to the third spot in Group C. PNG, who have now lost each of their two opening games, are at the bottom of the five-team table which also includes New Zealand, Afghanistan and West Indies.
Uganda players were ecstatic after their hard-fought historic win and celebrated jubilantly to mark their presence at their first-ever cricket World Cup event. The players were seen forming a huddle and dancing. The pictures and videos of the celebration have gone viral. Have a look.
Earlier last year, Uganda cricketers broke into a big celebration after they qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Uganda - who are nicknamed Cricket Cranes - will now play hosts West Indies at the same venue on Sunday, June 9.
