'Let Umran Malik scare a few batters around world': Brett Lee appeal to Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid

By Mykhel Staff

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee has made an appeal to the Indian team management to give young pacer Umran Malik as many chances as possible.

Lee has called the 23-year-old pacer a "special talent" and backed him to play all the three formats for India.

“Umran Malik is a wonderful bowler. He is a special talent. If his workload is taken care of properly, he will do wonders. I believe he (Umran) can play all three formats of the game. We must manage him correctly,” Lee said while speaking to The Times Of India.

“The best way to manage him correctly is to allow him to bowl, give him as many games as possible, don't rest him in every second game. Just don't let him go into the gym more and lift heavy weights. He should do light muscle mass in the gym, which is important for him. He should work on his sprinting and obviously his core strengthening,” said Lee.

Further, the Aussie legend has suggested that the Jammu and Kashmir pacer should be nurtured but also allowed to play so that he "scare a few batters around the world".

"He would have been the first pick in my team because raw pace is very hard to harness. You got to look after them but you've also got to throw him in the deep end at some time. Get him out there, allow him to play and let him scare a few batters around the world," he said.

Umran was recently part of the 3-match ODI series against Australia. However, he did not get a chance to play as India preferred Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj as the two pacer for the three matches.

Umran will be seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2023 which starts from March 31.
