Umran Malik in RCB wishlist, likely to be released by SRH ahead of IPL 2025: Reports

Umran Malik is set to be released by IPL 2024 finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), reports have emerged. The 24-year-old is on the 'wishlist' of several teams including the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the reports have added.

The Jammu and Kashmir pacer who shot to fame for his express pace played just one match in the IPL 2024 season. He has been with the franchise since making his IPL debut with them back in 2021. He was retained by the 2016 champions for Rs 4 crore after replacing T Natarajan as a short-term replacement in the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

Malik picked 22 wickets from 14 matches in the 2022 season, but his performance dipped thereafter. He got to play just eight matches in IPL 2024 as he picked five wickets at an average of 43.40 and an economy rate of 10.85. The following year he got to feature in just one match.

He has also been out of the Indian team since July 2023. The right-arm pacer played his last T20I match back in February 2023. Considered among one of the raw pace talents in India, Umran Malik wasn't even considered for India's recent tour of Zimbabwe where several youngsters got opportunity in the absence of the senior players.

"Umran Malik needs to play for a state which has proper structure.Unfortunately,he is playing for a state where there is no proper structure.He has the potential,a quick guy who can bowl in the mid-140 consistently,but someone to guide him," former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey coach told Sportstar recently.

The move to a different IPL team can breath a fresh in Umran Malik's career. He would be expecting to go in a team where he gets matches to play and come back in the reckoning for selection in the Indian cricket team.
