Uncertainty Prevails Over Extent of Jasprit Bumrah Injury; May be Out for Some Time With Back Spasm

Jasprit Bumrah's back spasm is still a matter of concern as the scan in Sydney did not provide a clear result, sources told MyKhel. The Indian cricket board's medical teams both in Mumbai and Bengaluru will now assess the situation more closely.

They will then determine if Bumrah will be fit to play. This means that they might consider further tests or evaluations before making a final decision on his availability for the upcoming matches.

Jasprit Bumrah Injury

There is already a lot of speculation surrounding Bumrah's availability for the series against England and the Champions Trophy. While some reports suggest that he may miss the T20 and ODI series, and even the group stages of the Champions Trophy, BCCI sources have clarified that these are just rumors for now.

Given that Bumrah's treatment plan hasn't been finalized, it's too early for the board to make any official announcement. The uncertainty means that only after his rehabilitation schedule is clear, a more definitive statement can be expected - whether that's for the Champions Trophy or the IPL.

Bumrah's back injury, sustained during the fifth Test in Sydney, significantly impacted both his performance and India's chances of leveling the series against Australia. As captain, his inability to bowl in the second innings proved costly, as India struggled to maintain the pressure required to level the five-match Test series.

Bumrah's leadership and bowling were key elements for India, and his absence, especially with such an injury, left a void in the team's plans for the match and the series overall. This injury now appears to be affecting his availability for future series and tournaments, further complicating India's bowling resources.

Bumrah has had a history of back issues that significantly impacted his career at times. He was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back in 2022, which led to him being sidelined for several important tournaments, including the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. To address the issue, Bumrah underwent surgery in early 2023.

Post-surgery, he followed a rigorous rehabilitation program and made a successful return to international cricket in late 2023. Despite his injury history, Bumrah's ability to deliver under pressure and his skillset as one of the world's premier fast bowlers have been remarkable. His workload management remains a priority for the Indian team to ensure he stays fit for key matches and tournaments.
