Uncertainty surrounds Younis Khan's return to national squad

By Super Admin

Lahore, Jun.19 (ANI): Uncertainty still surrounds former Pakistan captain Younis Khan's come back in the national team for the upcoming tour of England, with conflicting reports emerging from the PCB regarding his inclusion in the squad.

Some sources in the PCB said that the board is no longer interested in lingering on the issue of indiscipline with Younis, whose indefinite ban and two million fine was revoked by an appellate tribunal earlier this month.

Younis, who has represented Pakistan in 63 Tests, was one of the seven cricketers who were penalised for indiscipline noticed during the last tour of Australia.

However, PCB's legal advisor Talib Rizvi said that Younis was not cleared of all charges despite the clearance given by the one-man tribunal headed by Justice (retiredd) Irfan Qadir.

"I need to make it clear that Irfan Qadir, while removing the indefinite ban, ordered a remand of his case, seeking a fresh but defined ban for him," The Daily Times quoted Talib, as saying.

"Qadir asked for a new ban and because of this Younus is still not cleared and is ineligible to play for Pakistan," he added.

It is worth mentioning here that the PCB had included Younis in the list of 35 probables for the Asia Cup and the exhaustive tour of England, which suggested that it wants the former skipper to return to the national squad to strengthen the middle order, but it seems that his way back into the team will not be that easy.

In England, Pakistan will play two Test matches and as many Twenty20 Internationals against Australia. Later, Pakistan will face hosts England in four Tests, two Twenty20 Internationals and five One-day Internationals.

The team for the England tour is likely to be finalised after the Asia Cup match against arch-rivals India, which will be played today (June 19.) (ANI)
