Under-19 cricket tournament abandoned due to heavy rain

By Staff

Chennai, Nov 23 (UNI) Heavy rain under the influence of a trough of low pressure played spoilsport as the second day's play between Tamil Nadu and Baroda, and Maharashtra and Saurashtra in the Elite Group A Under-19 cricket tournament was abandoned without a ball being bowled today.

There was heavy rain all through the night and it continued this morning leaving no chance for the play to commence in both the grounds.

While the match between Tamil Nadu and Baroda, being played at ICL Gurunanak college grounds, was called off around noon, the other match being held at Pachayappa's College ''A'' Ground was called off at 1245 hrs after five hours of inspections.

The first day's play of the four-day match yesterday was also called off without a ball being bowled due to rains.

Uttar Pradesh was the fifth team in fray and all the five teams will play each other in the league format.

The tournament continues till third week of December.
