U-19 World Cup warm-up game: India win by massive 372 runs

Dhaka, Jan 23: India started off their Under-19 World Cup preparations on a bright note as their batsmen dominated in the warm-up game against Canada today to post a mammoth 485/3 in 50 overs. In reply, the opposition were bundled out for 113 as India won by a massive 372 runs.

On Saturday (January 23), at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan ground, India captain and opener Ishan Kishan hit 138 and Ricky Bhui scored 115. Both batsmen retired to give others a chance.

Kishan blasted 16 fours and 7 sixes in his 86-ball knock. Bhui too was in top form, smashing 10 fours and 7 sixes in his 71-ball stay at the wicket.

The final flourish came through left-hander Mahipal Lomror who blitzed a 23-ball 55 (4x4, 4x6). Rishabh Pant, who opened the batting with Kishan, scored 62 (37 balls, 5x4, 5x6). Sarfaraz Khan contributed 48 before retiring. Lomror later took 3 wickets.

Canada bowlers suffered at the hands of Indian batsmen. Off-spinner Harsh Thaker was the most expensive with forgettable figures of 1/102 in 10 overs.

India, coached by batting legend Rahul Dravid, are in Group D with Ireland, Nepal and New Zealand. They open their World Cup campaign in Mirpur on January 28 (Thursday) against Ireland. The tournament runs from January 27 to February 14.
