Unmukt Chand snubbed from USA squad for Canada T20Is but former Delhi batter and Corey Anderson find place

Unmukt Chand has been snubbed from USA's T20I squad for a five-match T20I series against Canada. However, former Delhi and RCB batter Milind Kumar found a place alongside former New Zealand star Corey Anderson.

The T20I series between USA and Canada will kick start from Sunday, April 7 at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston which will represent all the five matches. The following four T20I matches will be played on April 9, April 10, April 12, and April 13.

The development comes as a major setback for Unmukt Chanad, who retired from Indian cricket in August 2021, and moved to the USA in his pursuit to play international cricket. With over 1500 runs in 45 innings, the 31-year-old U19 World Cup-winning captain stands second on the run charts in the history of the MiLC.

The performance of players in national T20, and practice games in the training camp organised thereafter, were taken into consderation for selection.

Why Unmukt Chand wasn't picked in USA squad?

The former Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians star could not score big in the National T20, and three practice games which followed. However, he scored 70 runs in the final game at the training camp to stake his claim for a spot.

Further, Shayan Jahangir, the highest scorer in USA's last assignment at the 50 Over World Cup Qualifiers and the first choice opener for MI New York, was also ignored. The two high-profile snubs have surprised many in the American cricket circles.

Corey Anderson, Miling Kumar, Harmeet Singh find place

Former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson is set to make a comeback to international cricket after five years. The 33-year-old last played for New Zealand in a T20I matches against Pakistan in November 2018.

Since his arrival to America in 2020, the southpaw has scored over 900 runs in 28 innings at a strike rate in excess of 146 in the Minor League (MiLC). Anderson was pick of the domestic batsmen in the MLC that included a whirlwind knock of 94 against a power packed MI New York.

Former Delhi and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Milind Kumar also found place in the squad owing to a consistent run in the MiLC where he has scored over 1100 runs in 35 innings.

He also played a few gritty knocks for the Texas Super Kings. Former India U19 fame Harmeet Singh has also found place in the squad. The left-arm spinner recently picked two wickets for nine runs in US Masters T10.

Squad for T20I Series vs Canada: Monank Patel (captain), Aaron Jones (vice captain), Corey Anderson, Gajanand Singh, Jessy Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar, Nisarg Patel, Steven Taylor, Andries Gous, Harmeet Singh, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, Nostush Kenjige, Milind Kumar, Nitish Kumar, Usman Rafiq
