USA Script History In Cricket World Cup League 2! Beat Oman To Create New World Record

In a historic low-scoring thriller, the United States defended the lowest-ever total in an uninterrupted One Day International (ODI), securing a remarkable 57-run victory over Oman in their Cricket World Cup League 2 fixture.

The match, played at the Oman Cricket Academy, saw spin dominate proceedings as the USA successfully defended a modest 122, bowling out the hosts for just 65-their lowest total in men's international cricket.

USA Cricket

This is one of the lowest totals ever successfully defended in a full-length men's ODI, without any reductions in overs or target adjustments.

Batting first after losing the toss, the USA struggled against Oman's disciplined spin attack. Captain Monank Patel departed without scoring, setting the tone for a challenging innings where five wickets fell within the first 13 overs. Contributions from Aaron Jones (16) and Sanjay Krishnamurthi (16) provided brief resistance, but it was Milind Kumar's unbeaten 47 that proved vital. Striking six boundaries, he single-handedly pushed the total past 100 before the USA was dismissed for 122 in 35.3 overs. Shakeel Ahmad (3/20) was the pick of the Omani bowlers, with all wickets falling to spin.

Despite Oman's confidence in their slow bowlers, it was the USA's spin unit that stole the show. Nosthush Kenjige delivered a masterclass in left-arm spin, registering a career-best 5/11 in 7.3 overs, while Milind Kumar (2/17), Yasir Mohammad (2/10), and Harmeet Singh (1/25) complemented his efforts. The hosts crumbled under relentless pressure, with their batting lineup failing to withstand the relentless turn and accuracy of the American spinners. Jatinder Singh's dismissal for 7 was a crucial blow, and Oman never recovered, folding for 65 in just 26.2 overs.

Remarkably, not a single over of pace was bowled throughout the match, emphasizing the conditions that heavily favored spin. The pitch, known for its pace in previous years, particularly during the 2021 T20 World Cup, has taken a noticeable turn towards assisting slower bowlers in recent ODI contests forming part of the 2027 Cricket World Cup qualification pathway.

With this victory, the USA not only etched their name in the record books but also demonstrated their growing prowess in international cricket, particularly in challenging spin-friendly conditions.
