UT Administration to upgrade Sector 16 Stadium for ODI
Chandigarh, June 26 (UNI) Haryana Cricket Association Secretary Ranbir Singh Mahendra today met Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh Lalit Sharma to formally apprised him of BCCI's decision to hold One Day International Cricket match between India and Australia on October 8th at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium in the city.
The Adviser assured Mr Mahendra that Chandigarh Administration would make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the match is organised as per international standards. He said all requirements of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would be met by the administration.
Mr Mahendra expressed confidence that the match would be a befitting occasion. The Adviser also directed concerned officers to make arrangements relating to security, parking, ticketing and ground facilities as per the norms laid down for one day international matches.
UT Chandigarh Sports Secretary S K Sandhu disclosed that all technical requirements would be in place in time for the match.
The stadium has recently been upgraded with high class facilities for media coverage, dressing rooms, out-field maintenance and pitch requirements.
The last international match at the Stadium was held in 1993.
Last year a practice match was also played at the Stadium between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
