Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Abhishek Sharma: Rahul Dravid Maps India's Fearless T20 Generation
New Delhi, May 12: Former India head coach Rahul Dravid believes Indian cricket is witnessing the rise of a fearless new generation of T20 batters who are redefining the format with their aggressive approach and innovative strokeplay.
Dravid, who guided India to the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup title, was full of praise for young stars such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Mhatre, Priyansh Arya and world No.1 T20 batter Abhishek Sharma for changing the dynamics of Powerplay batting.

Speaking to PTI from Dublin during the unveiling of his European T20 Premier League franchise ownership, Dravid said the evolution in batting over the past few years has been extraordinary.
"In a sense, to see the quality of batting that has happened over the last two or three years, I think the bowlers in that format of the game will slowly have to do some catching up," Dravid said.
India's Youngsters Playing a Different Brand of T20 Cricket
The former India captain explained that the new generation of batters are no longer restricted by conventional scoring areas or traditional risk assessment.
"I think batsmanship and the ability to hit sixes and to access different parts of the ground has certainly improved leaps and bounds," he said.
That statement perfectly captures the fearless intent modern Indian batters are displaying in T20 cricket. Youngsters such as Sooryavanshi and Mhatre are attacking bowlers from ball one, while players like Abhishek Sharma have elevated Powerplay batting into a high-risk, high-reward art form.
The impact of franchise cricket, fearless dressing-room environments and advanced data analytics has helped young players evolve faster than previous generations.
Unlike earlier eras where batters took time to settle, the current crop is trained to dominate immediately, especially during field restrictions.
A New Era of Indian T20 Batting
India's next generation appears increasingly comfortable with unorthodox strokeplay, boundary-hitting range and relentless attacking intent.
Whether it is Abhishek Sharma taking down fast bowlers in the Powerplay or emerging names like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcasing fearless cricket early in their careers, Dravid believes the game has fundamentally changed.
And if India's current crop continues on this path, the country could be entering its most explosive T20 batting era yet.
