Vaibhav Suryavanshi Scripts History, Breaks 25-Year-Old Feat To Set All-Time Record In Vijay Hazare Trophy

Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi grabbed the headlines once again for breaking yet another record during Bihar's opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, December 21.

At just 13 years and 269 days old, Vaibhav has become the youngest Indian player to feature in a List A match, surpassing Ali Akbar's record.

Akbar had made his List A debut at the age of 14 years and 51 days during the 1999/2000 season.

Vaibhav also holds the distinction of being the youngest Indian to play in the Ranji Trophy, List A cricket, and represent India at the U19 level.

The left-handed batter had a forgettable debut in his first List A match, managing to score just 4 runs. Vaibhav did got off the mark in style, hitting a boundary on the very first ball he faced but was dismissed on the following delivery.

Bihar posted a total of 196 runs in 46.4 overs. Madhya Pradesh on the other hand, chased down the target with ease in just 25.1 overs.

The youngster made history during the IPL 2025 mega-auction by being signed by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore. He is now the youngest player ever to receive a bid at an IPL auction. When he makes his IPL debut next year, he will set another record as the youngest player to debut in the league's history.

Although Indian laws prohibit child labor for those under 14, experts point out that no specific regulations apply to sports, where players under 14 frequently participate in both national and international competitions.

However, to compete in an international game sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Suryavanshi will need to wait until he turns 15, as that is the minimum age requirement set by cricket's global governing body.

"He's an incredible talent and, of course, you got to have the confidence so he can step up to the IPL level," Rajasthan Royals' CEO Jake Lush McCrum told ESPN Cricinfo after the auction.
