Vaishnavi Sharma's remarkable debut at the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup is a testament to the power of mental preparation and visualization.
Athletes have long used visualization to enhance their performance, with cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden advocating its benefits.

On the fourth day of the tournament, Sharma, a 19-year-old cricketer from the Chambal region, turned her visualizations into a reality, creating history for India.
After missing out on India's opening Group A match against the West Indies, where Sonam Yadav was chosen as the left-arm spinner, Sharma finally got her chance against Malaysia. Determined to make the most of her opportunity, she entered the game with a clear vision of success.
"When I was told I was playing, I went back to my room," Sharma revealed. "I started visualizing that I would bowl, take six wickets, and get a hat-trick."
Her preparation paid off as she delivered a stunning spell, taking five wickets for just five runs in four overs. Her performance propelled India to a dominant ten-wicket victory and etched her name into the tournament's history books.
Sharma's journey began at the age of five, with her early training at the Tansen Cricket Academy in Gwalior. She displayed exceptional composure on her debut, with her first wicket coming in the eighth over, courtesy of a catch by captain Niki Prasad.
"I made sure that when I was on the field, I controlled my nerves and focused on my bowling," Sharma explained. "I calmed myself down and focused on my job."
In the next over, Sharma clean-bowled Malaysia's Nuriman. She adjusted to the turn-friendly conditions, keeping the ball on the stumps. Her accuracy and strategy paid dividends as she trapped Ain and Nur Isma Dania LBW on consecutive deliveries, completing her hat-trick by bowling Nazwah around her legs.
Her hat-trick, the third in the tournament's history, came with record-breaking figures that set a new standard at the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup.
"I've been seeing her for a very long time," said captain Niki Prasad. "Her coming in and playing her first game for her country, she has done a really good job. She's done it for her team, for herself, for her fans and her family. It's very special for all of us."
Sharma's stellar performance highlights India's depth and strength as they aim for consecutive titles. The team's next challenge will be a Group A clash against an unbeaten Sri Lanka, but with Sharma emerging as the newest star of the tournament, momentum is firmly in India's favor.
"Our coaches have made sure that we are well prepared," Prasad emphasized. "We've been given everything and it's seen on the field. We're going out there and executing what we've been doing.
"We've made sure that when we get on the field, we are there to dominate, and that's what all of us are doing out there."
Sharma's dream debut showcases the perfect blend of preparation, determination, and mental resilience, setting the stage for her bright future in cricket.
