Varun Chakaravarthy For Champions Trophy? India Star Joins India Camp In Nagpur For England ODI Series : Report

By MyKhel Staff

Varun Chakaravarthy has joined the Indian ODI squad in Nagpur for a short preparatory camp ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against England as per a report by TOI, scheduled to begin on February 6.

Rohit Sharma and his team arrived in Nagpur to fine-tune their preparations, and Chakaravarthy's inclusion has sparked interest, given his recent exploits in T20 cricket.

Although there has been no official confirmation regarding the KKR man's role in the camp, it remains uncertain whether he has been called up solely for net sessions or if he will feature in the ODI matches.

The 33-year-old spinner was in sensational form during the recently concluded five-match T20I series against England, where he claimed 14 wickets in five matches, earning the Player of the Series award. His impressive performances were not limited to this series alone; he also picked up 12 wickets in four matches against South Africa in the T20I series held in November 2024.

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from all forms of international cricket in December 2024, had earlier predicted that Chakaravarthy might get an opportunity in the ODI series against England. His foresight now seems to be materializing with Varun's addition to the squad.

"I have a feeling that Varun might get a chance to play in the ODI series between India and England. I don't think it's an easy call to take him directly to the Champions Trophy. He has not played ODIs. I have a feeling they will give him a chance in the India vs England ODI series," he shared on his YouTube channel.

Chakaravarthy's consistent performances in T20 cricket in IPL and for India have raised expectations, and his potential debut in the 50-over format could add a fresh dynamic to India's bowling attack. Fans and cricket enthusiasts will be keenly watching to see if he makes the final cut for the ODI series against England. But if he makes to the squad and perform, will he get a nod for the Champions Trophy 2025? Who knows.
