In a Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 clash between the Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) and Dindigul Dragons (DGD) at the SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, Varun Chakaravarthy delivered a standout performance with the ball, reaffirming his reputation as one of TNPL's premier spinners.
Although Dindigul fell short by eight runs in a gripping contest, Chakaravarthy's economical and impactful spell stood out as one of the game's highlights.

Bowling four overs during CSG's innings, the mystery spinner picked up three crucial wickets while conceding just 25 runs. His spell came at a time when the Super Gillies were beginning to gain momentum, and his intervention helped stem the flow of runs while applying pressure in the middle overs.
Chakaravarthy's first breakthrough came when he dismissed wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan, who had just begun to settle. He later returned to remove CSG captain B Aparajith, who was well set on 56 and threatening to take the game away. That wicket proved to be a turning point, halting Chepauk's acceleration during the death overs. Just one delivery later, he sent Swapnil Singh back to the pavilion, making it two wickets in as many balls and giving Dindigul a lifeline.
What made Chakaravarthy's spell even more valuable was his ability to maintain pressure despite the attacking intent of the batters. He bowled with precision and subtle variation, finishing with remarkable figures of 4-0-25-3 and an economy of 6.20-the best bowling performance for Dindigul on the night.
Unfortunately for the Dragons, the batting lineup faltered late in the chase. Despite a strong foundation laid by Ashwin and Indrajith, they collapsed in the final overs and could only manage 172/8, falling short of the 181-run target.
While the result didn't go Dindigul's way, KKR and India star Varun Chakaravarthy's spell was a silver lining, reaffirming his match-winning abilities and keeping his team's playoff hopes alive.
