It has been a roller coaster life for Varun Chakravarthy. The architect turned cricketer has taken unimaginable leaps in his career and has been a story to get inspiration from.
His eventual decision to bowl spin rather than scaling building plans has worked perfectly fine for him, and perhaps has gone beyond his wildest dreams. After a terrific season with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021, the mystery spinner was included in India's T20 World Cup squad as well.

Although his India performance is nothing to speak highly about, with 2 wickets in 6 matches - but another call-up can be on the cards for the spinner. The 31-year-old found his form in recent months.
He had a decent IPL 2023 campaign with Kolkata Knight Riders. Chakravarthy picked up 20 wickets for KKR this season in 14 matches, becoming the best bowler for the Knights this season. And the bowler has continued his wicket-taking spree in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
The spinner has 5 wickets in the first two matches and sits jointly at the top of the wicket-taking chart in this year's TNPL. His team Dindigul Dragons are sitting on top of the TNPL table and Varun has played a big part in their early upsurge.
He picked up three wickets in their first match against Trichy, as his 3/21 earned him the player of the match award. He had a similar outing against Madurai in the next match, where he ended up picking two wickets. The spinner also has one of the best economies in the tournament so far with a miserly 5.50 runs conceded per over.
But will it be enough for an India call-up? Well, that is a tricky question but it is not impossible at all. At least in the T20I format, Varun can get another chance to wear the India colours.
With the series against West Indies beckoning in a month, if he can continue to shine in the TNPL, his name may toss up with substance when the selectors pick the Indian team.
The player has brought certain variations in his speed and even discussed that in a post-match show during IPL. After a dismal season last year for KKR, the player took the onus into his own hand and brought changes which can be fruitful in both the short and long run.
Indian team have an abundance of spinners in the team, but none carry the mystery tag with them, which can work in favour of the Chennai-born player. But even if an India recall doesn't come immediately, Varun would love to grind on without thinking of reaping the fruits so much.
