Vaughan to quit ODI captaincy for a prolonged Test career

London, June 18 (UNI) A disastrous World Cup campaign, niggling knee injuries and the 'Fred-alo' faux pas seem to have taken their toll on Michael Vaughan and the England skipper is contemplating quitting the one-day captaincy in order to prolong his Test career.

After leading England for four years, Vaughan has freely admitted to 'Daily Mirror' that he won't be around to take part in the next World Cup, but his hunger for Test success burns as brightly as ever, with the 2009 Ashes the ultimate aim.

Vaughan has conceded to his family and friends that England's disastrous World Cup campaign has triggered his decision.

Also off-field antics such as the 'Fredalo' affair have all taken their toll on him.

Vaughan also admitted his knee injury would always be a concern, but will now have more time to focus on managing it.

Though the right-hander is against splitting England's captaincy, yet he is prepared to compromise with the situation in order to bring success for his country in both Tests and one-dayers.

All-rounder Paul Collingwood is seen as the favourite to take over Vaughan's post.
