In what could be one of the most high-profile swaps ahead of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly exploring a trade deal involving star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer.
According to several media reports, Iyer may be on his way to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), with wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan potentially moving in the opposite direction.

With the IPL trade window currently active, franchise insiders suggest that KKR is keen to offload Iyer following a disappointing 2025 season. The franchise had splurged a whopping ₹23.75 crore on the batter, but his performances failed to justify the hefty price tag.
Injuries and poor form hampered Iyer's campaign-he featured in only 11 matches, scoring a mere 142 runs and was eventually dropped from the playing XI.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, bought by SRH for ₹11.25 crore, had a relatively better season, amassing 354 runs across 14 games, including a century. However, inconsistency marred his overall impact, and SRH too is considering a reshuffle at the top.
From a strategic standpoint, the swap makes sense for both teams. KKR is actively looking for an aggressive top-order wicketkeeper-batter-an area where Kishan fits the bill perfectly. Conversely, SRH is searching for a middle-order all-rounder who can provide stability and bowling options, and Iyer's skillset aligns with their needs.
While neither KKR nor SRH has officially confirmed the deal, the potential trade has already generated significant buzz among fans and analysts alike.
Both Iyer and Kishan are high-profile names who underperformed last season, but a change in environment might be just what they need to rediscover their best. If the trade does go through, it could prove to be a tactical win-win for both franchises heading into IPL 2026.
