Bengaluru, June 12: Chris Gayle and Kevin Pietersen faced off in "The Big Six Challenge" ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Guess who won? (Scroll down to watch the video)
Yes. The big hitting Jamaican - Gayle, but only just.
In a video released by the organisers of CPL, Gayle and Pietersen showed off their six-hitting skills. The local hero won by smashing the ball to 119 metres while Pietersen fell behind by 2 metres - at 117.
The 2-minute 27 seconds video opens with T20 statistics of both the players displayed. "I am here to introduce The Big Six Challenge. I am Kevin Pietersen and I play for the St. Lucia Zouks," he says.
In a typical Gayle way, he says, "Need no intro. I am Chris Gayle." He captains Jamaica Tallawahs. He adds, "The Caribbean Premier League is all about cricket played louder."
Then Pietersen talks what the challenge is all about. "You have got 1 over to show who has got the biggest six in their lockers," the former England captain said. "Come on KP, it's me and you. I know I am going to win," Gayle said with a big smile.
After trying hard to outdo the other, the fun challenge is finally over. And Gayle is the winner.
"The champ is here," Gayle declares. "See this guts. Don't mess with this buddy", Gayle gushes, showing off his big left biceps.
After all this, the duo shake hands and have a laugh.
The CPL action begins June 20 and goes on till July 26. Six teams will be vying for the top prize.
