'Vignesh Puthur never repeats Mistakes, convinced his class on very first Day': Alleppey Ripples coach Ramakrishnan S | Exclusive

Talent and Perseverance always bear fruits - and for Vignesh Puthur, the dream of success transitioned to reality as he donned the Mumbai Indians jersey in IPL 2025.

Vignesh Puthur announced himself in a sublime fashion for Mumbai Indians, as he picked three wickets on his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings.

The Kerala boy from a small place in Malappuram district called Perinthalmanna showcased his might amid a daunting atmosphere at the Chepauk. Despite MI's defeat, the young Malayali has stood a massive bright spark.

A player who has no domestic experience and has only played a handful of matches in Kerala Cricket League, Vignesh has shown that talent finds its way to the very top. He played for Alleppey Ripples in the inaugural KCL season, and their coach Ramakrishnan S was assured of his talent from the very first meet. Ramakrishnan, who is serving as the batting coach of Alleppey Ripples, spoke with MyKhel exclusively and depicted his first impression on Vignesh.

"We saw Vignesh at our KCL camp in Thrissur. And he impressed on the very first day. Believe me, I thought if he plays even five matches in KCL, he will be in the radar for an IPL franchise. I was that much positive and the way he bowled, we cannot explain in one or two words. He is like a champion bowler. There is no nervousness and he is so courageous," says Ramakrishnan, who himself is a former Ranji player for Kerala.

Despite having such talent, Vignesh was used for just four matches in the league and Ramakrishnan says small size boundary made them not risk with Vignesh in the matches. But even then, the youngster picked up 2 wickets in the tournament.

Puthur's wicket tally in IPL has already reached 3 and the youngster got some big names on his debut. CSK captain Rurutaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Shivam Dube - both fell victim to his loopy and gutsy flight. But there is a glaring positive about Puthur's bowling, which is accuracy, and the Ripples coach echoes the same.

"The biggest positive about he is that he never repeats his mistakes. If he concedes a six or a four by a poor delivery, he never bowls that in the entire match. He maintains his rhythm and his commitment to discipline is amazing."

Vignesh's journey hasn't been easy. Hailing from a family with financial struggles, the Kerala boy fought his way to the current stage. His father has always been a big support and upon joining MI, the youngster has further evolved as a cricketer.

MyKhel also had a talk with Alleppey Ripples' majority stakeholder TS Kaladharan, who reminisced the reason behind Vignesh's acquisition in the KCL.

"I knew him as the only Chinaman bowler in Kerala. He never played any serious cricket so we never had a lot of data available but we wanted him to be part of our team so we took him at his base price," he said.

Vignesh's journey has just taken a massive flight. The youngster must be still dreaming about the magnificent debut but it shall only serve him well if he regains focus and prepare for the upcoming challenges. With his quality and resilience, Malappuram's 'Mone' has the ability to reach loftier heights, and time shall tell if he attains the level.
