Bengaluru, February 8: Karnataka walloped Assam by 111 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Just Cricket Ground on Thursday (February 8).

Three half-centuries studded Karnataka total of 303 for six in 50 overs and then medium pacer M Prasidh produced a six-wicket haul (6/33) as the hosts bundled out Assam for 192 in 47.2 overs.

Karnataka openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal (84, 87b, 10x4, 2x6) added 58 in 11.5 overs to give them a solid foundation.

Karun Nair (58, 57b, 6x4, 1x6) and R Samarth (70 n.o, 61b, 4x4, 1x6) and Pavan Deshpande (43, 39b, 4x4) made most of that good start to guide Karnataka past the 300-run mark.

Mayank and Karun added an even 100 for the second wicket in around 17 overs to keep the momentum. Then Samarth and Deshpande milked another 88 from just over 13 overs towards the backend of the innings as Karnataka nottched a competitive total.

Sibasankar Roy (64, 93b, 6x4, 1x6) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (43 n.o,, 33b, 4x4, 3x6) offered semblance of fight at various stages but that was not enough this day.

Once Prasidh reduced Assam to 25/3 in a tad over 7 overs, the climb back for them was always tough.
