Vijay Hazare Trophy Wrap: Mumbai Secure 51-Run Victory Over Uttarakhand; Hardik Tamore, Sarfaraz-Musheer Star

Mumbai overcame Uttarakhand by 51 runs in a Group C match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, despite Rohit Sharma's early dismissal.

Mumbai posted 331 for seven, with significant contributions from Hardik Tamore, who remained unbeaten on 93, and Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan, both scoring 55. Uttarakhand managed 280 for nine, thanks largely to Yuvraj Choudhary's 96-run effort.

Musheer Khan also contributed with the ball, taking two wickets for 57 runs. Onkar Tarmale, making his List A debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad, impressed with figures of two for 40. Devendra Bora claimed three wickets for 74 runs, including the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma, who was caught at deep fine leg by Jagmohan Nagarkoti after attempting a pull shot.

Key Performances in Other Matches

In another Group C encounter, Maharashtra secured an eight-wicket victory over Sikkim. Sikkim was bowled out for 150 in 40.2 overs, with Kranthi Kumar top-scoring with 40. Maharashtra chased down the target in just 18 overs, led by Prithvi Shaw's 51 and Arshin Kulkarni's 40. Ruturaj Gaikwad finished the job with an unbeaten 38 off just 13 balls.

At the Anantam Ground, Punjab defeated Chhattisgarh by nine wickets. Chhattisgarh posted 253 all out in 48.4 overs, with Amandeep Khare and Mayank Verma scoring half-centuries. Punjab's openers Harnoor Singh and Anmolpreet Singh made light work of the chase, adding an unbroken partnership of 184 runs to reach the target in 42.1 overs.

Goa's Narrow Victory

At Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground, Goa edged past Himachal Pradesh by eight runs in a thrilling contest. Deepraj Gaonkar starred with both bat and ball, scoring a crucial 71 and taking five wickets. Goa posted a total of 285 for nine, supported by Lalit Yadav's century. Himachal Pradesh fell short despite Pukhraj Mann's explosive innings of 126.

The crowd at Mumbai's match was eager to see Rohit Sharma in action but were left disappointed as he departed on the first ball he faced. Despite this setback, fans stayed to watch him field and even chanted for him to bowl during the game. However, skipper Shardul Thakur did not entertain their requests.

During Mumbai's innings, Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan built a solid foundation with a partnership of 107 runs for the third wicket. Sarfaraz played aggressively square of the wicket while Musheer focused on straight hits over the bowler's head. Both players were dismissed after promising starts.

Tamore then took charge with a well-paced innings that included strategic running between wickets and powerful shots against left-arm spinners Mayank Mishra and J Suchith. His partnership of 95 runs with Shams Mulani proved decisive in setting up Mumbai's total.
