By MyKhel Staff

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli's personal life took centre stage recently as his wife, Andrea Hewitt, revealed a deeply personal chapter of their journey. Andrea disclosed that she had filed for divorce in 2023, citing significant challenges in their relationship due to Kambli's struggles with alcohol addiction.

However, she ultimately chose to withdraw the decision, touched by his vulnerable state. Speaking on a podcast hosted by journalist Suryanshi Pandey, Andrea shared the emotional toll of her husband's health and personal struggles.

"He will be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, but he is more than that. I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay?" Andrea explained.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2006 in a private civil ceremony, has faced significant challenges, including Kambli's declining health. On December 21, Kambli was hospitalised for urinary infection and cramps, further adding to the concerns surrounding his well-being. Previously, he was diagnosed with brain clots, a condition that left fans and well-wishers deeply worried. Andrea Hewitt expressed her unwavering concern for Kambli's welfare, emphasising that his dependence on her was a key reason she chose not to leave.

Recently, Vinod Kambli made a rare public appearance at the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium. With Andrea's support, he attended the event, where he was seen being helped by her to walk into the venue. This poignant moment reflected their enduring partnership amidst adversity.

In addition to the Wankhede celebrations, Kambli was also honoured at a Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) event, where former cricketers were felicitated for their contributions. Despite his struggles, Kambli's legacy as a cricketer remains intact, and Andrea's decision to stand by him highlights a story of resilience and compassion in the face of personal and health challenges.
