Vinod Kambli Without Phone for Six Months After Failing to Pay Repair Charges

By MyKhel Staff

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli's financial troubles have taken a stark turn as reports reveal he has been without a mobile phone for over six months. The 52-year-old had given his iPhone for repairs but was unable to pay ₹15,000 for the charges.

Consequently, the shopkeeper retained the phone, leaving Kambli disconnected from regular communication during a challenging period in his life. Kambli once enjoyed a successful cricketing career with a net worth of ₹13 crore.

The former famous cricketer is now reliant on a ₹30,000 monthly pension from the BCCI. His wife, Andrea Hewitt, disclosed that their housing society has harassed them over unpaid maintenance fees totaling ₹18 lakh.

"His photo has even been posted as a defaulter in their society," she shared, highlighting the extent of their financial difficulties. The Shiv Sena has offered financial aid of ₹5 lakh for Kambli's medical treatment, but the former cricketer's struggles underscore the precariousness of his situation.

Kambli is currently admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane, recovering from brain clots and a urinary infection. His condition, which had been critical, has now stabilized. However, doctors have noted signs of memory impairment.

"There is some impairment of memory function...with time and good rehabilitation, he could regain 80-90% of his memory, but not fully," said Dr. Dwivedi, who is overseeing his treatment. Despite these setbacks, Kambli has shown resilience.

A viral video captured him dancing energetically in his hospital ward, spreading positivity among staff and other patients. He later expressed gratitude to his supporters, saying, "I have reached this far because of your love."

The loss of his phone due to unpaid charges showed the financial and personal challenges that Kambli is facing. From being one of India's cricketing icons to struggling with health and monetary issues, his story is certainly a sobering reminder of the uncertainties that many times follow fame.
