Virat Kohli on Sunday ended his 1205 days wait for 28th Test ton by reaching to the 3-figure mark on Day 4 of the fourth and final Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
In a supreme display of his mental strength and batting depth, the batting maestro hit just five boundaries en route to his 75th international hundred. He worked his way through the quality Australian bowling attack to score a 241-ball hundred - his second slowest in Test cricket. Notably, Kohli is playing his 50th Test match in India.
The fans in the stadium and those watching on their television sets erupted in joy after Kohli took a single off Nathan Lyon on the second ball of India's 139th over in the first innings. However, the celebration of the 34-year-old was a subdued one. There wasn't any animated celebration from the right-hander but the satisfaction of ending the three-year long wait was evident.

Upon reaching the milestone, he took off his helmet and raised his bat towards the dressing room and spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He then put down his bat and helmet and kissed his wedding ring which hangs around his neck. He then delicately put the ring inside his jersey. He then went on to hug his batting partner Axar Patel as fans in the crowd kept roaring for him. Australia players Lyon, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith and others were also seen applauding the gritty innings from the former India captain.
At the time of Tea on Day 4, India were trailing by eight runs in reply to Australia's first innings total of 480 runs. Kohli, who did not hit a single boundary in the first session, struck five boundaries after completing his hundred, was unbeaten on 135 off 291. His partnership with Axar was accounting for 79 unbeaten runs. Axar came to bat after India lost their fifth wicket in the form of KS Bharat (44). Shreyas Iyer is facing some problem with his back and hasn't come out to bat yet.
