Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, two of India's premier cricketers, will not feature together for Delhi in their upcoming Ranji Trophy clash against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, starting January 30.
According to a report by CricBlogger, Rishabh Pant, who played Delhi's last match against Saurashtra, has been advised by the national selectors to sit out due to workload management concerns.

The decision comes on the back of Pant's recent return from a demanding Australian tour, where he reportedly experienced swelling in his knee. While playing this critical domestic game could have been a significant opportunity for Pant to regain form, the selectors have opted to prioritise his recovery for international assignments. With key series like the ODIs against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 looming Pant's fitness remains crucial to India's plans.
Interestingly, Virat Kohli, who hasn't participated in domestic cricket in 12 years and skipped the last Delhi match, has been training with the Delhi team ahead of this fixture. His presence was expected to bolster Delhi's chances and offer fans a rare opportunity to witness the duo of Kohli and Pant playing together in a domestic setting. However, with Pant ruled out, Delhi will now look to Kohli for inspiration in their last league game of the season. It also remains to be seen if Virat Kohli will feature in the game or not.
Meanwhile, the decision to rest Rishabh Pant reflects the selectors' "horses for courses" approach, where international commitments are prioritised over domestic fixtures. While this move ensures Pant's longevity and availability for marquee tournaments, it has sparked debate about the diminishing role of domestic cricket in nurturing and testing top players. Critics argue that domestic appearances by stars like Pant and Virat Kohli would bring credibility to tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, motivating younger talents and increasing fan engagement.
Adding to the controversy, other out-of-form players like Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill have also skipped the next round of Ranji games. This trend has raised questions about whether the push for international glory is inadvertently undermining the significance of domestic cricket.
